7 Smart Ways to Earn $500 Before Christmas

7 Smart Ways to Earn $500 Before Christmas is a post originally published on: Everything Finance – Everything Finance – Its all about Money!

It’s almost that time of year again. The holiday season is upon us and you may find yourself needing extra money. The holiday season can be hard if you are on a tight budget.

Not everyone is able to set aside money for Christmas early on. However, you can still earn $500 before Christmas by using some clever techniques. I love earning extra money so my husband and I always keep a side hustle. There’s just nothing better than being able to earn some extra cash on a whim – especially when the holidays roll around.

If you need extra money for gifts, decorations, or anything else, here are 7 smart and real ways to earn $500 before Christmas.

1. Sell Items Online

If you ever want to make money fast, consider selling items online. You can sell literally anything to make a quick buck. If you have old old clothes, toys, tools, or electronics, start listing items online to sell for extra cash. Sites like Offer Up and the Facebook Marketplace make it easy to sell your old stuff quickly and painlessly.

It may sound like a challenge to make $500 by selling things online, but you really just need to comb through all your old stuff and be proactive. Set a goal and break it down to make the amount more attainable. For example, you may try to sell about $150 worth of furniture, $50 worth of clothes, and $50 worth of toys to start. Focus on items that may sell really well like electronics even if they don’t work. If you have an old smartphone, for example, you can still make $100 or more by selling it online.

2. Deliver Food

Another easy way to make $500 before Christmas is to deliver food during your spare time. Apps like DoorDash and GrubHub are always looking for new delivery drivers and will pay you well for your time. You can earn around $15 per hour or more with most apps. This means to make $500, you just need to work about 10 hours per week for the next 3 weeks.

What’s great about food deliver apps is that you can get signed up and start working very quickly. You will need a vehicle, scooter, or some transportation to deliver the food. Another thing you’ll need to do is pass a background check. Then, you’ll be ready to start working and making money. Set your own hours and deliver restaurant meals when it’s most convenient for you. Sites like DoorDash pay weekly or you can request your payment earlier.

3. Write For Money

Writing for money is one of my favorite ways to make $500 before Christmas. You don’t have to be the best writing in the world or have a writing degree to make money contributing articles online. You just need some basic grammar skills and a level of expertise as it pertains to the subject you’re covering.

There are plenty of sites that will pay writers for guest posts. Or, you can reach out to bloggers and see if they pay writers for articles. As a beginner, you can typically earn anywhere from $50 to $100 per article to start. This is enough to get you well on your way to earning $500 for Christmas. Writing online can even be an ongoing gig that can help you earn extra money during the year. That way, you always have extra money for the holidays and other needs.

4. Sell Crafts on Etsy

Consider cashing in on your creativity and selling crafts on Etsy for extra holiday cash. Etsy is a popular marketplace where you can sell your homemade and digital goods to people all over. It’s easy to open your own Etsy shop and start listing your creative products. Etsy does take out a small fee when you make a sale but the platform does an excellent job of setting you up with a professional digital storefront so you can connect with customers.

Whether you want to do woodworking, sell homemade soaps, or make your own jewelry, Etsy is a perfect place to start selling your creations. Choose a price point that will make selling on Etsy well worth your time and effort. Again, work backward from the goal of $500 to see how much you need to sell depending on the price point you set.

5. Walk Dogs

Walking dogs can be a fun and simple way to make some extra money. If you love animals, sign up for Rover and market yourself as a dog walker. You can also offer pet sitting services and keep other people’s pets overnight. You can earn anywhere from $15 to $20 per dog walk and around $30 to $45 by keeping other people’s pets overnight.

6. Earn Rewards Online

If you’re short on time, you can still earn $500 before Christmas by trying out different rewards sites. The key is to just get started now. Sign up for Swagbucks and Inbox Dollars to earn money by completing short tasks. Both sites will pay you to complete surveys, watch videos, and try out different offers. You won’t get rich on these sites, but you will earn some extra cash with very little time and effort on your part.

Another rewards site you can check out is Rakuten which pays you cashback for online shopping. If you’re spending some money on online purchases anyway, you might as well sign up for Rakuten for free and make some cashback. Finally, consider taking some surveys during your spare time to maximize your earnings. Sites like Survey Junkie, Branded Surveys, and Pinecone Research are all excellent options.

7. Do a Focus Group

Focus groups are like surveys but they’re often longer interviews that may take place in person. Focus groups also pay more and you can expect to earn anywhere from $50 to $250 for an hour or your time. Mindswarms is a site that provides virtual focus group opportunities that pay around $50. You can also sign up for Respondent to find both online and in-person focus groups to complete.

Doing focus groups is not something that you can rely on for a consistent income, but it can be a great way to earn a few hundred extra dollars fast.

Summary: Making $500 Before Christmas is Possible

If you need to make $500 before Christmas, you’re not alone. There’s still plenty of time to make extra money. Just narrow down your options and set a schedule to start side hustling for a few hours per week. Odds are, once you get started you will exceed your goal of making $500. By earning extra money for the holidays, it means you’ll be less stressed and can avoid unnecessary debt.

Who’s ExtraCredit® For?

You’re a unique person with your own unique financial situation. And ExtraCredit can help. With five features targeted towards specific financial areas, ExtraCredit is a great resource that you can use to get a handle on your situation.

With that said, you might find some features more useful than others. Let’s say you’re new to the credit world and need to build your credit history. You’ll probably find Build It particularly useful. But since you don’t really have a credit history, you might not get a lot of use out of Restore It.

Think of ExtraCredit like this—you’re getting at least one feature that helps you tackle the exact credit goal you are working on. The other features? Well, they’re a little bonus. You might not need to use each feature right now, but it doesn’t mean that you won’t later on.

The Breakdown

ExtraCredit has five features that were designed to help you stay on top of different aspects of your financial and credit health. Let’s dive right in:

Reward It

You finally decided to sign up for ExtraCredit? Great! Because you made such a smart choice, we’ll send you an ExtraCredit debit card loaded with $5. That’s what Reward It is all about—but it gets better. When you take a look at Reward It, you’ll see a slew of financial and other types of offers that you most likely qualify for based on your credit score. When you get approved for one of those offers, we’ll celebrate with you by loading up your ExtraCredit debit card with reward amounts of up to $2500. You read that right—up to twenty-five hundred dollars. All for you, because of your smart financial decisions.

Track It

A lot of apps and services out there claim to have the only and completely accurate score you need. But the thing is, you have dozens of scores. And different lenders see different credit scores. So how can you keep track? Enter Track It. ExtraCredit will gather all your FICO® Scores and show which lender pulls which report. It’ll also keep track of all 28 of your credit scores. But it goes one step further by showing you which credit score is best for what you’re applying for, whether it’s a house or a credit card. Think of it as your lending cheat sheet.

Guard It

Here are some statistics for you: according to the Insurance Information Institute, the FTC received 4.8 million identity theft and fraud reports. Not only that, but identity theft reports have increased by 45% since 2019.

Identity theft is no joke. So how can you stay safe? Guard It can provide the services you need, including:

  • Dark Web Monitoring: We’ll continually scan hidden websites and file-sharing networks for data breaches.
  • Compromised Account Monitoring: Worried about your finances? We’ll catch unauthorized bank changes and accounts opened with a stolen identity
  • Identity Theft Insurance: You’ll receive $1,000,000 identity theft insurance, because you’re worth it.

Does all this security feel like overkill? We don’t think so. Your identity is important, so Guard It is here to protect it. Better safe than sorry.

Build It

Sure, credit card payments play a huge role in your credit score. But that’s only half of the payments you make, right? What about your other bills, like rent and utilities? That’s why we created Build It. Use Build It to report your rent and utilities to credit bureaus as credit tradelines.

Restore It

So your credit’s not where you want it to be. And you need help. You’re in the right place. Restore It will connect you with an experienced credit repair service that can take a look at your situation. You’ll get a discount to work directly with the credit gurus at CreditRepair.com, a credit repair service that has a killer track record. If they’re not available in your area, you’ll get that discount with another leader in credit repair.

The ExtraCredit Breakdown

Okay, we know that there are a lot of credit solutions out there. You’ve probably seen other services that offer things like rewards, ID protection and credit monitoring. But here’s the thing—no one offers a comprehensive service like ExtraCredit®.

With ExtraCredit, you get five killer features all wrapped up in a box with a bow on top. Here’s a breakdown of about how much the ExtraCredit services would typically cost on their own:

  • Basic Credit Repair: $25 value
  • Rent Reporting: $10 value
  • Credit Scores: $20 value
  • Dark Web Monitoring: $35 value

With ExtraCredit you get all five services and more, starting $24.95 a month.

ExtraCredit Reviews

Okay, we could just keep going on about how great ExtraCredit is and how it’s the credit solution that you need. But ExtraCredit has been out for a little while, so you’re probably wondering: what do ExtraCredit users actually think?

Luckily for you, the ExtraCredit® reviews are in. We’ll let them speak for themselves:

“A lot of features for one great price. While others offer additional services or features at additional cost, Credit.com offers some of those at one price. I recently found out that there are about 28 credit scores depending on what you’re shopping for. Credit cards, vehicles and general loans, etc. With the three bureaus. I’m glad I found them and discontinued my services with two other companies. Their site is easy to navigate through and you can see where you stand. They’re are helpful in ways in raising your score, too. I highly recommend them.”

  • Faustino D.

“I was a little careless with my credit in my early life, but eventually became responsible and started paying attention. I had my identity stolen several years ago, and I wanted to monitor my report from all three credit bureaus in one place at an affordable price. ExtraCredit solved my problem and offered more than what I expected. My favorite ExtraCredit feature is the ability to view 28 of my FICO(R) Scores from all three credit bureaus.”

  • Khalid S.

Disclaimer: Current users were solicited and in some cases compensated in exchange for an unbiased review about their experience with ExtraCredit.

We have to admit—these reviews sound pretty promising. Wondering if it’s all too good to be true? You can try ExtraCredit out for yourself.

The Bottom Line

Sure, there are a lot of credit solutions out there. But here’s the thing—ExtraCredit impacts every dimension of your credit. So you could go with the one-dimensional credit solutions provided by the other guys. Or you could go with ExtraCredit, which offers so much more.

ExtraCredit is here for you. It’s like a team of credit pros, all focused on monitoring your credit and providing the information you need to satisfy your credit score needs. When you work with us, ExtraCredit can help you get a handle on your finances.

A Parent’s Guide to Setting a Successful Budget for a College Student

The post A Parent’s Guide to Setting a Successful Budget for a College Student appeared first on Penny Pinchin' Mom.

You are getting ready to send your child off to college. Before you start helping them pack their belongings, there is one thing you need to do.

You need to help them create a budget. You need to teach them how to manage their money so they can learn the tools they’ll use long after they graduate.

The truth is everyone needs a budget. It does not matter your age. If you are dealing with money, a budget is necessary.

  1. Allows you to control your money. Rather than your money telling you what it wants to do, you get to tell your money where it needs to go. You are always in control when you have a budget.
  2. It teaches financial skills. A budget helps ensure that expenses such as rent, tuition, food, insurance, transportation, and housing are paid – before spending money on the fun stuff. (It also helps to make sure you don’t spend more than you make.)
  3. Makes you aware of where your money goes. When you use a budget, you see how you spend. It is very simple to see if too much is going toward dining out when you should be building your savings.
  4. Helps you track your goals. You need to cover expenses but you should also work on building savings at the same time. Your budget allows you to not only see those goals but track them in real time.

Not at all! If anything, your budget will allow you to have guilt-free fun.

For example, the budget may allow you to spend $50 a week dining out. That means you can go to dinner with friends once (possibly twice) a week and enjoy yourself. You won’t be left wondering how you are now going to make rent.

There are various methods of budgeting such as the 50/30/20 and the zero-based budget. For most college students, the zero-based is the simplest and easiest to follow.

The reason is that you track everything. You give every penny a job. That means if you earn $1,500 for the month that you “spend” the entire $1,500.

You will first cover the needs (food, shelter, transportation) and then your wants. If there is money “leftover” after this is done, it can be added to your savings.

You can use other types but if you have never budgeted before, using this method is the simplest.

The budget will vary for each person, as the income and expense will be different. However, these are the most common categories that need to be included in a budget:

  • Rent
  • Renter’s insurance
  • Car payment
  • Car insurance (also saving for annual renewal fees)
  • Food
  • Clothes
  • Utilities (phone, electricity, gas, water, etc.)
  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Entertainment (movies, games, concerts)
  • Dining out
  • Emergency fund savings

Again, you may have items that are not included above or see some that you do not need.

However, the most important thing of all is that every penny is given a job. Account for everything you will spend each month so you never have too much month and not enough money.

For most college students, apps or digital trackers are the best options.  But, before you rush and sign up, keep the following in mind.

  1. Cost. Many apps are free and they will work perfectly fine. Other apps have a monthly fee attached to them. If you plan to use one of them, make sure you include that as one of your regular expenses. However, do not let the cost alone be a single factor when it comes to clicking the sign-up button.
  2. Security. Your security trumps all else. You need to make sure the app uses encryption as well as two-factor authorization.

Some of the best apps include:

  • Mint
  • You Need a Budget (YNAB)
  • PocketGuard
  • Mvelopes

However, your student may also like the traditional paper and pencil method – and that is OK as well.

Find the right one that works best for your student. That is all that matters.

Knowing you need a budget and where to track it is just the beginning. You need to teach your child how to budget.

Start by looking at each category that they need on their budget. You may already know the cost for each category but if not, you may need to make phone calls or do research to know.

For example, you know the rent for the apartment is $850 a month but how much are the average utilities? Ask the manager for these costs so you can include them in the budget.

Next, decide how much they want to allow themselves to spend on food. Show them how much a meal costs for a single person at each restaurant you eat at so they can create an average.

You will then have them decide how much “fun money” they want to include as well. You can base this on them wanting to go to the movies two times a month, one concert a month, or attending three events.

Now you can see the expenses for your student. Add their income to the budget and deduct the expenses. They will see if they are operating in the black (money left over) or in the red (spending more than they make).

Show them how to adjust the numbers by increasing their savings or lowering the amount they can spend on clothes – until the budget equals zero. Zero meaning they are spending every penny they earn.

And making them keep track now will help ensure they stay on track well into the future.
